Facebook Vanity URL
If you’ve ever wanted your own Facebook URL then makes plan to stay up late this weekend. Yesterday, Facebook announced that starting at 12:01 a.m. (EDT) on Saturday, June 13, 2009, vanity URLs (i.e. www.facebook.com/JohnDoe) will be available to for Facebook profiles and Fan Pages. Vanity URLs are helpful in telling people how to find you and can be very valuable for businesses and groups. Twitter and MySpace already offer this feature and now Facebook has joined the game.
According to a recent Facebook blog entry “Your username must be at least five characters in length and only include alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9), or a period or full stop (“.”).” There are some exceptions to be aware of. Fan Pages must have at least 1,000 fans and have been created before 05/31/09. To claim your vanity URL simply visit Facebook.com/username and follow the instructions on how to create your own URL.
